How to personalise your new build with Redmile Homes: The choices journey
5 min read - by Redmile Homes
Buying a new home early enough in the construction process gives you an exciting opportunity to have a say in how it will look and feel when you move in. From kitchen finishes and worktops to bathroom tiles and flooring, the choices you make can help shape a home around your individual style.
At Redmile Homes, we’ll guide you through those decisions personally. Once you’ve reserved an eligible plot, you’ll be invited to our dedicated selection room, where you can see and feel samples, compare finishes, and spend time considering the available options with support from our team.
If personalising your new home is important to you, reserving at an earlier build stage can give you the greatest choice. Here’s how the Redmile Homes choices process works and what you can expect at each stage of your journey with us.
Why reserving early means greater customisation
When you reserve a new home, its construction stage can affect the choices still available to you. Certain materials, fittings, and finishes may already have been ordered or installed, so speaking to us early gives our team more opportunity to incorporate your preferences into the build.
The exact personalisation options will depend on your chosen plot, house type, construction stage, and product availability. We’ll explain what’s possible for your new home from the outset, so you know which decisions you can make and when they need to be confirmed.
Your Redmile Homes choices journey
Once you’ve chosen and reserved your plot, we’ll take you through the development information in more detail. This includes planning documents showing features such as the site layout, brick colours, landscaping, external works, driveway, and garden arrangement.
This stage helps you visualise your exact home’s planned design, what its outside spaces will look like, and how it sits within the wider housing development. Once you’re familiar with those details, we can start looking at the personalisation choices that will bring your home to life.
Your choices appointment is where the personalisation begins. This is when we invite you to our dedicated selection room for a private appointment with one of our friendly team members, where kitchen finishes, worktops, tiles, and other samples are laid out for you to explore.
Appointments usually take around two hours, giving you plenty of time to compare colours, textures, and combinations. We’ll be there to explain your options and pricing, check in to answer any questions, and keep the refreshments coming while you work through your selections.
After you’ve made your decisions, we’ll sit down with you to review your choices room by room and confirm they have been correctly recorded on our system.
We’ll then provide a full pricing breakdown so you can see exactly what’s included and the cost of any selected upgrades. You’ll have time to look through everything carefully and raise any final questions.
When you’re happy with your selections and how they’ve been priced, we’ll confirm them on your account with us. Then, you’ll enter a short cooldown period, giving you one last opportunity to make any changes before your choices are locked in.
At the end of the cooldown period, your choices are final and further changes can’t be made. The relevant construction work will move forward with your design preferences, and we’ll keep you updated as your home progresses through the build and towards completion.
What can you personalise in a Redmile home?
Every Redmile home comes with a carefully considered specification as standard, with additional choices available to help you put your own stamp on individual rooms or outdoor spaces. The exact specification will vary by house type and plot, and all finish options are subject to availability.
Kitchens and utility rooms
Our standard kitchens include a Symphony kitchen design, a choice of cabinets and worktops, Neff appliances, an integrated fridge-freezer, pendant lights, and a range of other selected fittings.
Depending on your home, optional selections may include:
- Upgraded worktops
- Tiling (with a choice of tiles)
- Downlights
- Alternative flooring finishes
- Alternative hob type
- Upgrade to double oven
Bathrooms and ensuites
Our standard bathrooms feature quality Ideal Standard sanitaryware and basins, Mira showers, a choice of Sagittarius taps, a choice of standard wall tiles, and a white paint and gloss finish.
Depending on the plot, available upgrades can include:
- Alternative sanitaryware styles
- Upgraded wall tiles
- Upgraded floor finishes
- Chrome towel radiators
Ensuite layouts and some accessories will vary according to house type and plot.
Other interior details
You may also be able to personalise details throughout the rest of your home. Subject to the plot, optional extras can include upgraded flooring, more electrical sockets, decorative handles, bespoke joinery, brushed chrome switches, and additional connectivity such as CAT 6 cabling.
Standard interior specification in many of our homes includes:
- TV point (living room and master bedroom)
- Built-in wardrobe (master bedroom)
- Soft-white internal doors throughout
- Chrome / brush handles throughout
- White emulsion paint finish to walls
- General woodwork with white gloss finish
Some features will vary between house types, including built-in wardrobes, utility rooms, and other layout-specific details. Our team will go through everything that applies to your chosen home at the reservation stage. Read our general specification information in our House Upgrades guide.
A high specification from the start
At Redmile Homes, personalisation builds on an already strong standard specification. All our homes include features designed with quality, comfort, and energy efficiency in mind. Standard features across our homes can include:
- Quality kitchen appliances and bathroom fittings
- Triple-glazed windows and high-performance insulation
- Built-in solar PV panels and EV charging points
- Stelrad radiators and Vaillant system boilers
- Wastewater heat recovery systems
- Composite external doors (front and secondary)
- Private tarmac driveway / parking
- Private rear gardens with fencing and turf
- Outside porch lights, doorbells, and house alarms
Certain exterior features such as integrated or detached garages vary by plot, while others are available as upgrades, including patio size, additional fencing, extra solar panels, and outdoor taps and plug sockets. We’ll explain exactly what’s included in your home at the reservation stage.
A personal approach from start to finish
As a small, family-run housebuilder, we stay closely involved throughout the buying journey. You’ll deal with familiar members of our team who understand your plot, know where your home is in the build process, and can answer your questions as they come up.
Unlike larger housebuilders, we work on a focused number of developments, so we can give each buyer and home the attention they need. From your first enquiry through to completion, we’ll describe each stage clearly, keep you updated, and make sure you know what to expect next.
That personal approach also means we take the time to understand what you want from your home. Whether you’re choosing finishes, checking progress, or preparing to move in, you’ll have consistent support from a team invested in helping you feel confident throughout the process.
Ready to make a Redmile home your own?
If you already know that customising your new home would make it feel more personal, try to speak to us as early as possible. The earlier you reserve during construction, the more opportunity there may be to make those decisions before key stages of the build are completed.

FAQs about personalising a new build
Can I personalise any Redmile home?
Often, yes! Personalisation depends on the individual plot, house type, and how far construction has progressed when you reserve. Homes reserved earlier in the build generally give us more opportunity to offer choices because finishes and fittings may not yet have been ordered or installed.
What happens at a Redmile Homes choices appointment?
You’ll visit our dedicated selection room and explore the options available for your home, including physical samples and finish boards. The appointment usually takes around two hours, and our friendly team will explain what’s included as standard, available upgrades, and associated pricing while you make your selections.
Do I have to pay extra to personalise my home?
A range of choices is already included within our standard specification, so personalisation doesn’t automatically mean choosing paid upgrades. We’ll clearly identify which options are standard and which carry an additional cost, then provide a complete pricing breakdown before your selections are confirmed.
Can I change my mind after the choices appointment?
You’ll have an opportunity to review your selections and make minor adjustments during the cooldown period that follows your appointment. Once that period ends and your choices are confirmed for construction, further changes can’t be made.
How early should I reserve if I want to personalise my new home?
There isn’t one fixed point because construction progresses differently from plot to plot. If personalisation is important to you, contact our team as early as possible. We can explain the current build stage of the homes available and which choices can still be made.
