Sustainability

Redmile Homes’ commitment to sustainability

We know that buying a home today means thinking about more than just the here and now. Energy costs, environmental impact, and long-term value all play a part in your decision – and they shape how we build our homes too.

At Redmile Homes, we take a practical, considered approach to sustainability. By focusing on efficient design, thoughtful material choices, and the wider environment, we aim to build homes that benefit our homeowners, the community, and the planet.

The Redmile standard

High-performance insulation

We use modern insulation throughout the walls, floors, and roof to improve heat retention. This means your heating system doesn’t need to work as hard to maintain a comfortable temperature, helping to keep running costs down.

Triple-glazed windows

Triple-glazed windows come as standard in every home. With three panes of glass instead of one or two, they reduce heat loss and keep external noise to a minimum, making a noticeable difference to both energy use and day-to-day comfort.

Solar PV panels

We install solar PV panels in many of our homes, making you less reliant on energy from the grid. You can use the energy as it’s produced during the day, store it with a battery (not included), or export any excess to your energy supplier for additional credit.

Wastewater heat recovery systems

Some of our homes include wastewater heat recovery systems. These capture heat from used shower water and use it to pre-warm the cold water supply, reducing the amount of energy your boiler needs to reach the right temperature.

Electric vehicle charging

Many of our homes feature EV charging points, so you can top up when it suits you. For example, charging during the day can make the most of solar energy. Plus, it adds long-term value to your property as more drivers transition to electric vehicles.

High-efficiency appliances

We fit our homes with modern lighting and integrated appliances, which are usually more energy-efficient than older models. This helps keep everyday energy use lower (depending on your choices during the personalisation stage).

Our community impact

We think about sustainability as more than what goes into our homes. It’s also about how we build, who we work with, and the kind of neighbourhoods we help create.

Building with the local community in mind

We aim to keep investment close to home wherever we can, while also being mindful of how we use materials and manage waste. That means sourcing materials responsibly and working with local tradespeople where possible, helping to reduce unnecessary transport and support businesses in the area.

Supporting nature alongside new homes

We design our developments to help wildlife thrive. Alongside green spaces and planting, you’ll find features like hedgehog highways, which are small gaps in garden fences that allow hedgehogs to move safely between spaces. We also include bird and bat habitat bricks, which are built into walls to provide safe nesting and roosting spots.

Creating places that feel good to live in

A home extends beyond the building itself, so we look at ways to support community and everyday wellbeing too. From green spaces and active landscapes for walking, cycling, and relaxing, to buying incentives and offers like local gym memberships, we try to encourage healthy, connected lifestyles for our residents.
